LPA welcomes Labor vision for creative Australia

Live Performance Australia (LPA) has welcomed Labor’s cultural policy statement as a step towards restoring certainty and confidence and raising the ambition for Australia’s cultural industries.

Commenting on the policy, Evelyn Richardson, Chief Executive of Live Performance Australia, stated "Labor has put forward a comprehensive set of initiatives and funding commitments across the cultural sector, including the restoration of funding to the Australia Council, welcome support for our First Nations theatre and dance companies and creatives, additional funding for the ABC, and a suite of measures to support live music at home and internationally.  

“After years of disruptions to funding and a disjointed policy approach to the cultural sector, it is heartening to see one of our major parties spelling out a strong commitment to supporting and growing our cultural sector through a comprehensive and funded policy approach,.

“The revival of Labor’s Creative Australia policy approach is welcome, ensuring that Australians who create, produce and perform have every opportunity to grow and succeed in their chosen fields,”.

“It recognises the significance of our artists and creators in our national cultural life, and the scope to achieve so much more at home and internationally.  

“Should it win office, LPA looks forward to working with an incoming Labor government on raising the ambition for our cultural industries and helping all Australians realise their full creative and cultural potential."
