Logan community to decide future of greyhound track

Logan residents will decide the future of Cronulla Park in Slacks Creek following the Queensland Government having handed back the site to Logan City Council.

The Queensland State Government considered developing greyhound racing facilities at the Compton Road site but abandoned the proposal, partly due to community opposition to the idea.

With the Council considering future development of a community sports facility on the site, Logan Mayor Luke Smith welcomed the move and said the community will now have a say on the future of the 10 hectare site.  

Mayor Smith stated "the overwhelming voice of the city told us they do not want a greyhound racing track in Logan.

"It’s not something we identify with nor did we want to give the perception that greyhound tracks offer benefits to the community.

"I would like to see a multi-sports complex there, something that we can offer our residents to get them out and involved in training or recreation of their choice.

"There's a lot of opportunities we can utilise that field for and that's what we prefer."

A community consultation process will be undertaken to hear the views of residents about future development options for community use on the site.
