Family-owned Perth venue reboots with new concept during COVID-19

Family-owned venue, Leapfrogs, situated in the beautiful Wanneroo Botanical Gardens in Perth’s Northern suburbs, has launched a new concept and new take-away menu amid pandemic restrictions. A unique, drive-in themed, ‘carpark kitchen,’ has been constructed using almost 200 pallets donated by Pallet Pals in Maddington to help reboot the venue so they can deliver food and beverage to the community.

Leapfrogs closed on 23rd March when additional government restrictions required seated venues to shut-up-shop and permitted take away only.

On 26th March, the restaurant held a free drive-thru to help those in the local community struggling in light of the economic impact of COVID-19, giving away almost 200 meals.

Leapfrogs Owner, Paul Woodcock notes “with everything going on, it was great to give back to our local community and we were blown away by how many people responded. Who knew one of our venue’s best assets was the carpark and the ad-hoc drive-thru worked really well.”

Leapfrogs has since launched their new concept – Drive-In | Take-Away – which will be available from 8 am to 8 pm Friday through Sunday.

Leapfrogs Business Development Manager, Eli Barlow advises “we’re changing with these crazy times and recognise that some of our family and friends would like to enjoy Leapfrogs from home... in their car... or while walking with a socially distant companion. We have just added online ordering to our website! In addition to quality coffee, yum brekkies, wood-fired pizzas, and cracking burgers... pick up a bottle of wine or grab some beers too.”

Pallet Pals Manager, Sheryl Giles adds “we are all in this together and that means helping one another when we can. We are thrilled to be helping Leapfrogs re-boot and excited to come and experience what they put together.”

The venue’s night canopy will be made up of more than 600 lineal metres of fairy lights and almost a kilometre of lights illuminate the timber façade, entry (In) and exit (Out).

The Western Australia Department of Racing, Gaming and Liquor, in lieu of the current crisis, has granted the venue a temporary liquor license enabling them to sell a limited number of take away alcoholic beverages from 12pm.

Restaurant Owner, Mark Gill highlights “the safety of our guests and our team is our highest priority; we’ve followed advice from the Australian Government, the Department of Health and World Health Organisation to ensure our venue continues to be hygienic and safe. Our intention is to provide fantastic quality, take-away food without guests even needing to get out of their car."
