Local board launches Albany Stadium Pool project

The beginning of the Albany Stadium Pool project, a key priority for the Auckland suburb of Albany, has been launched by the Upper Harbour Local Board.

The new pool, currently expected to open in 2016, will be a community facility that focuses on recreational swimming. Initial concepts for the $19 million project include a variable-depth pool to cater for different needs, as well as leisure water activities for all ages.

Located next to the Albany/North Harbour Stadium, further facilities will be considered as the design stage of the pool progresses.

Upper Harbour Local Board Chairperson, Margaret Miles, says the project launch is a significant milestone for the community, explaining "we are very excited to be making great progress on the Albany Stadium Pool.

"The Albany community has been asking for a recreational swimming pool for a long time and the local board is very pleased to be making steps towards delivering it.

"Upper Harbour is very fortunate to have great competitive sports facilities. This community pool will really meet the needs of local families who want to enjoy a more recreational space."

Board members were recently joined by New Zealand Prime Minister John Key to officially launch the project.
