Lizard Island to re-open in March 2015

Great Barrier Reef resort Lizard Island will re-open in March next year following a 12 month program of extensive refurbishment and rebuilding following the impact of Cyclone Ita.

Among the additions to the resort are a new stand-alone two bedroom suite, The Villa, offering uninterrupted views across Sunset Beach and the Coral Sea.

The Pavilion suite, with its private gazebo and plunge pool, will now be expanded to include a separate lounge room from which guests can enjoy the panoramic views over the Coral Sea. Additionally, a selection of the Sunset Point Villas will now have the added luxury of private plunge pools. The Anchor Bay Rooms, located on the beachfront, and the Garden Rooms have all been retained.

Looking forward to the reopening, Resort General Manager Amanda Silk stated “I am really excited to be returning to Lizard Island.

“Having been general manager here some years back, I have a really strong commitment to making sure this refurbishment provides the unique Lizard Island experience that our guests have come to know and expect.

"I am also relishing the chance to restore Lizard Island to its rightful position as one of the leading resorts of the world.”

The Resort was damaged (picture below) and staff and guests evacuated during Cyclone Ita earlier this year.

Beyond a soft opening as of 1st March 2015, the Resort is expected to be fully operational as of 1st April next year.
