Live Performance Australia welcomes new NSW Government
Live Performance Australia, the peak body for Australia’s live performance industry, has congratulated NSW Premier-elect Chris Minns and the NSW Labor Party on the outcome of the state election held on Saturday 25th March.
LPA Chief Executive Evelyn Richardson notes “we look forward to working with the new government on the implementation of its policy commitments for the state’s vibrant cultural and creative sector, including its $103 million package for contemporary music.
‘The new government has a valuable opportunity to accelerate the recovery and rebuilding of our live arts and entertainment industry through the development of a new cultural strategy for NSW.
‘This should include a more integrated approach across government to investment in our artists and performers, companies and infrastructure for the benefit of all of our audiences.
‘Live arts and entertainment can make a huge contribution to the economic, social and cultural vibrancy of communities across NSW with the right policy direction and settings in place.”
LPA extends its appreciation to the outgoing government, including former ministers Don Harwin, Stuart Ayres and Ben Franklin, for their support of live arts and entertainment during their time in office, particularly for their support during COVID-19.
Established over 100 years ago in 1917 and registered as an employers’ organisation under the Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Act 2009, LPA has over 400 Members nationally. They represent commercial producers, music promoters, major performing arts companies, small to medium companies, independent producers, major performing arts centres, metropolitan and regional venues, commercial theatres, stadiums and arenas, arts festivals, music festivals, and service providers such as ticketing companies and technical suppliers. Their membership spans from small-medium and not-for-profit organisations to large commercial entities.
LPA has a clear mandate to advocate for and support policy decisions that ensure industry sustainability and future growth.
The nation’s peak retail industry group, the Australian Retailers Association (ARA), has also congratulated Chris Minns on his election victory and looks forward to working with the Australian Labor Party (ALP) to address the issues affecting retailers in New South Wales.
