Kings Legend Wrublewski to be Honoured
A who's who of the Sydney basketball and business community will gather together to honour ailing former Sydney Kings 'Mr. Basketball' Mike Wrublewski on 8th August.
Wrublewski, who was instrumental in building the Kings into one of Australia's iconic sporting brands during his long tenure as the team's Chairman, has been diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer.
Former Kings' colleague Lorraine Landon stated "in normal Mike style, he is very positive that he can beat it.
"When he was first given the news by his doctor he said that he wanted to have a big party to celebrate life and remember the good times. As a result, some of his many friends have decided to organise a spectacular celebration in his honour."
The event, which will be held at CarriageWorks in Redfern, is called 'The King of The Kings'. It is being organised as a testimonial, roast and late birthday celebration for Wrublewski, whose birthday is on 2nd August.
The night will also launch the Mike Wrublewski Foundation, a legacy to support young aspiring athletes.
Legendary Kings player and NBL Hall of Famer Steve Carfino will be the MC for the evening and Dwayne McClain and Leon Trimmingham, two of the Kings' most exciting import players in the 1990s, will be there as well as all other Kings favourites including Damian Keogh, Tim Morrissey, Marc Ridlen and Brad Dalton.
Landon added "I would encourage all former Kings' fans and friends of Mike to come along and honour his amazing achievements.
"It will be a fantastic and memorable night and a fitting way to celebrate his life with him."
The evening starts at 6:30pm and tickets are available now through Ticketmaster (search for âThe King of The Kingsâ).
