Kelly Tarlton's looking for young explorers

With Kelly Tarlton's Antarctic Encounter and Underwater World set to be re-launched as Kelly Tarlton's SEA LIFE Aquarium in September, the popular Auckland attraction is searching for 10 young environmentalists to act as youth experts on aspects of the marine environment.

As one of New Zealand's leading conservation entities, Kelly Tarlton's wants to find 10 aquatic-loving Young Explorers, who will each gain the key to the new Kelly Tarlton's SEA LIFE Aquarium for one whole year when it opens its doors on 28th September.

Tane Tarlton, the 10-year-old grandson of the legendary Kelly Tarlton, has inherited his family's passion for our wonderful aquatic species, and will lead the group as the first Young Explorer on the panel.

Young Explorers must be aged 6-12 years, and to enter the competition children must simply write 100 words about "why it is important to conserve New Zealand's sea life" and submit along with a drawing of their favourite sea creature.

Kelly Tarlton's General Manager James Thomas, says "one of our top priorities at Kelly Tarlton's is protecting aquatic wildlife and underwater environments for future generations, and we're looking forward to finding New Zealand's most conservation-minded children to help us.

"As we take on the globally recognised SEA LIFE name, we are also joining the world leader in aquarium operators, passionately believing in the breeding, rescue and protection of marine animals."

"The more children that understand about aquatic animals and their habitats, the more they will understand about how to protect it, ultimately helping us achieve environmental sustainability. While Young Explorers is a fun competition with a really great prize, it has an equally important educational element."

Tane Tarlton is excited to be part of the Young Explorers, which will essentially see 10 Kiwi children and their families become Kelly Tarlton's SEA LIFE Aquarium 'VIPs' for a whole year.

Tane explains "I'm always learning new things when I explore at Kelly Tarlton's. The new Seahorse Kingdom is really cool, and Stingray Bay and the Shark Tunnel are also my favourites. I can't wait until the awesome new Penguin walk through area opens - I know all the Young Explorers will love it all as they stand right up close to the king penguins."
