July Completion for Evans Head Aquatic Centre

The new Evans Head Aquatic Centre on NSW Far North Coast is set to open in July.

When complete, the new facility will feature a 25-metre swimming pool; a children's wading pool; a fitness centre and amenities block.

It will also feature a range of energy efficient elements including the capture and use of rainwater.

Evans Head is one of the few NSW North Coast towns without a swimming pool and locals had campaigned for the facility over 17 years.

Two-thirds of the funding for the $5.1 million project to deliver the long-awaited aquatic centre came from the $800 million Community Infrastructure Program with Richmond Valley Council contributing the balance.

Once completed, the facility will be managed by the Richmond Valley Council delivering a state-of-art aquatic complex for local families, competitive amateur swimmers, tourists and visitors.

The funding announcement for the centre at the end of 2009 attracted political heavyweights including Anthony Albanese, Federal Minister for Infrastructure; Kate Ellis, Federal Minister for Sport, along with Member for Page electorate, Janelle Saffin, and the Mayor of Richmond Valley Council, Col Sullivan.
