Juliusmedia partners with The Concourse Chatswood

The Concourse Chatswood has become the first performing arts centre in Australia to offer in-house backstage technical training to external applicants.

Short courses in stage lighting and theatre sound will commence across the Christmas school holidays, aimed at those interested in obtaining practical technical skills.

Training at The Concourse will be conducted by Juliusmedia, the leading provider of industry accredited short courses in Australia. Juliusmedia has trained over 1,000 students at short courses previously held at its former campus.

The Concourse approached Juliusmedia to form this education partnership to deliver a unique, hands-on course.

Julius Grafton from Juliusmedia explains "taking training from a simulated performance black box environment into Australia's newest and best equipped regional performing arts centre is a major step.

"Previously we've trained within venues like Riverside at Parramatta and the Victorian Arts Centre. But there's no better place to call home than The Concourse - the layout and design of the Concert Hall and Theatre are unbeatable."

Willoughby City Council General Manager, Nick Tobin added "the offering of The Concourse is becoming incredibly dynamic. The facility now provides many elements for the community ranging from entertainment right through to training. It really does offer something for everyone."

Grafton believes technical training should be practical rather than classroom based, adding "there are more than 80 high schools offering entertainment courses in NSW this year, and most struggle with the Basic Lighting and Basic Sound elements. As great as some teachers are, there is no better place to learn than in a brand new, world class theatre complex. We are delighted The Concourse suggested this initiative, which is tailored perfectly to give participants a real taste of how the industry works behind the scenes."
