Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week 2022 focuses on top five concerns in women’s health

By Karen Sweaney

Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week is being held across Australia from 5th to 11th September and, as it celebrates its 10th anniversary, this year’s campaign is focussing on the top five concerns in women’s health: menopause, pelvic health, mind health, movement, health checks. It also reminds women that it’s okay to put yourself first.

Jean Hailes Women’s Health Week is Australia’s biggest event dedicated to the health of women, girls and gender-diverse people in Australia.

Community and workplace events are being held nationally, and together with Jean Hailes’ free online activities and learning materials, the campaign aims to help women make well-informed choices when it comes to their health and wellbeing.

Jean Hailes for Women's Health is national not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the health of all women.  The organisation was founded 30 years ago in honour of pioneering medical practitioner, Dr Jean Hailes (pictured above), who established the nation’s first (and only second in the world) women’s health clinic dedicated to menopause. In 2022, Jean Hailes now operates two clinics in Victoria, servicing all women’s health needs.

Janet Michelmore, Chief Executive Jean Hailes for Women’s Health, says that after the last two years it is time for women to put themselves and their health first and notes “this Women’s Health Week we also want women to know they are not alone, and getting together to support each other is a great step to good health.

“Getting involved is easy. You can join a local event, walk with friends, watch a webinar or simply make a booking for that overdue check-up.”

Each day of Women’s Health Week features a different focus area:

Day 1, Monday 5th September: Check me out – health checks at every age
Day 2, Tuesday 6th September: Menopause matters – menopause and perimenopause
Day 3, Wednesday 7th September: Pelvic power – pelvic floor health and pelvic pain
Day 4, Thursday 8th September: Mind health – mental wellbeing and brain health
Day 5, Friday 9th September: Move and improve – physical activity and your health.
