Intrepid Travel partnership delivers exclusive First Nations-guided Larapinta Trail tour

A partnership between Intrepid Travel and Indigenous-owned operator 100% Finke River Culture & Adventure has seen the launch of its first-ever Larapinta Trail trip guided by First Nations leaders.

From May 2025, tourists will experience a seven day walking tour on the iconic Larapinta Trail in Central Australia, guided by two First Nations leaders alongside an Intrepid trip leader.

With 10 departures scheduled in 2025, this immersive journey will offer exclusive access to 100% Finke’s private campsite on the trail.

Hikers will walk through diverse landscapes, from snaking riverbanks and open desert plains to towering mountain ranges. The 9-16km per day trek culminates at the summit of Mt Sonder, offering panoramic views of the rugged West MacDonnell Ranges, known as Tjoritja by the traditional custodians of the land.

Brett Mitchell, ANZ Managing Director, Intrepid Travel notes “partnering with 100% Finke River offers travellers the chance to gain a deeper understanding of this incredible part of Australia, while learning directly from First Nations trip leaders. We are proud to be the only tour operator working with 100% Finke River to offer a First Nations-led experience on the Larapinta Trail.

“This collaboration also reinforces our commitment to our Reconciliation Action Plan by fostering long-term relationships with First Nations communities, supporting local employment, and investing in training opportunities that create lasting impact.”

Benjamin Kenny, Trip Leader for 100% Finke River says this collaboration brings together the expertise of two organisations, combining deep cultural knowledge with world-class adventure travel, and round the clock customer service, to create something truly special.

“Together, we are committed to delivering unforgettable experiences in Central Australia, showcasing the breathtaking landscapes, rich Indigenous heritage, and the spirit of the outback like never before.”

With over 40 First Nations experiences across its 66 domestic trips, Intrepid Travel continues to expand opportunities for travellers to engage with First Nations culture in an authentic and respectful way.
