International basketball at Cable Beach

A unique international basketball event being conducted next week will be played overlooking Broome's extraordinary Cable Beach.

Western Australian Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the Cable Beach Invitational would feature the Perth Wildcats taking on the Singapore Slingers and two Chinese teams, the Shanghai Sharks and Zhejiang Guangsha Lions.

Dr Hames stated "this unique three-day event, played on a purpose-built court overlooking the stunning Cable Beach, is going to provide some world-class competition and add further vibrancy to Broome.

"In addition the event will be broadcast via ESPN Star and Fox Sports, providing great exposure of Broome and Cable Beach to millions of viewers in South East Asia, China and Australia.

"Broome is a popular holiday destination and I encourage all visitors for the event to explore the many extraordinary attractions that it offers.

"I would also like to congratulate event organiser RV Sport for its partnership with Anglicare to promote mental health in the Kimberley region, in particular among youth."

The Cable Beach Invitational, being held from 26th to 28th September, is supported by the Western Australian Government through Eventscorp.

The Minister said the event was important as it strengthened Western Australia's links with Singapore and China, concluding "Singapore is WA's third biggest tourism market in terms of visitor numbers, and China is currently our seventh."
