International Adventure Travel Guide Qualification and Performance Standard launched
In an effort to support professionalism in adventure tourism, the Adventure Travel Trade Association (ATTA) has initiated the Adventure Travel Guide Qualification and Performance Standard.
The first ever publication and standard of its type, the Adventure Travel Guide Qualification and Performance Standard was developed by an ATTA volunteer industry working group between November 2014 and July 2015 - with working group participants drawn from 15 countries and made up of guides, business owners, and industry partners.
This standard is offered to the industry as a voluntary guideline and while not enforced or regulated by the ATTA or any other organisation; governments, destination managers, and company owners are encouraged to refer to this standard when evaluating the quality and performance of their own guides and determining appropriate training programs.
Both new and experienced guides may refer to the standard as benchmark for evaluating their own performance.
Companies, guides and destination managers are encouraged to review the standard and officially sign the document, signalling their support and intention to adhere to the best practice components of adventure tourism guiding.
