Indoor pool and splashpad opened at Beenleigh Aquatic Centre in Logan
A $5.5 million expansion of the Beenleigh Aquatic Centre, featuring a new indoor heated program pool and aquatic play area - has been opened.
Officially opened yesterday (Friday 15th March), and with a family fun day to be held today, the addition of the heated indoor pool with a viewing area, kiosk, office, plant equipment, change facilities and water play area is part of a two stage expansion of the Centre, built in 1962, into an all-weather facility.
As a result, year round learn-to-swim classes will now be available at Beenleigh for the first time.
Speaking at the opening, City of Logan acting Mayor Cherie Dalley stated “we are pleased to deliver this redevelopment as part of a joint funding arrangement between Logan City Council and the Queensland Government.”
City Lifestyle and Community Committee Chairperson Councillor Steve Swenson said the new centre would assist Council to deliver its vision for an active and healthy community as part of the Active Logan Strategy, adding “the year-round heated pool will allow for programs such as learn-to-swim, aqua aerobics and water walking.”
The learn-to-swim program at the Centre will be run by legendary Australian swimming coach Laurie Lawrence.
