Inaugural Hobart Airport Marathon Festival offers an inclusive event
The inaugural Hobart Airport Marathon Festival to be held on 25th September will showcase Tasmania’s capital as a destination city for festivals and events with the Festival also catering for those wanting to take part, including families and those with both physical and intellectual disabilities.
The inaugural event will highlight the spectacular Constitution Dock, River Derwent and Salamanca wharves, before participants head through a landscape of pristine waterways, untouched bushland and some rugged hills for two laps of pleasure and pain across greater Hobart.
With a distance to suit every ability and age group, this community-focused event not only shines the light on the capital but encourages physical activity and mental wellbeing.
Hobart Airport Marathon organiser Todd Skipworth said there was great excitement building around the inaugural fun run after a big build up.
Skipworth notes “after almost two years of planning and countless hours of work we look forward to welcoming participants and supporters from Hobart and abroad.
“Every state in Australia will be represented on course, along with plenty of international participants choosing to line up for the first ever Hobart Airport Marathon Festival.”
“This event showcases the very best of Hobart, bringing participants who share a love of running together in one of the most memorable cities in the world.
“As countless nervous participants stand on the start line at 6.30am on Sunday the 25th the hum of anticipation will give way to the sunlight breaking over Hobart's famous Constitution Dock before thousands of runners embark on a course that is both breathtakingly beautiful and unforgettable.”
Skipworth said the support of the City of Hobart was crucial to getting the inaugural event up and running and adds “Events like these are impossible without the support of local council and community groups.
“The City of Hobart team has been integral in breathing life into the Hobart Airport Marathon both in their support of the event when it was just an idea but also in helping with the planning and infrastructure required to bring this idea to life.
“It has played an integral role in bringing an exciting new event to Hobart's annual running calendar – an event that will draw interest from all around Australia and the world to experience the cleanest air and most unforgettable running scenery.”
The Hobart Airport Marathon Festival will be held on Sunday, 25th September.
