Illnesses lead to closure of Yarra Ranges splash park

Yarra Ranges Council has confirmed the ongoing closure of its Seville Water Play Park after laboratory tests showed the presence of heightened levels of E coli bacteria and coliforms.

The splash pad closed in mid-January after parents began reporting that children were falling sick after visiting the Park.

While initially stating that the closure was a "precautionary measure", the Council is now working with the Victorian Department of Health on developing a revised maintenance schedule before it reopens.

Local newspaper the Lilydale and Yarra Valley Leader reported that the Council's Director of Planning, Building and Health Andrew Paxton acknowledged the impact of closing the park on the local community and businesses, but that the Council's focus remained on ensuring community safety.

The water play park features a range of water jets and play features.
