ICC Sydney updates its COVIDSafe policy to retain ability to host events

International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) has advised that following the introduction of new restrictions for venue capacities by the New South Wales Government, ICC Sydney continues to hold an exemption to accommodate corporate events and exhibitions subject to one person per four square metres - without a maximum capacity.

ICC Sydney Chief Executive, Geoff Donaghy notes “The NSW Government Health Order changes relating to corporate events have not brought about fundamental change to ICC Sydney’s operating procedures with the only change being the mandatory wearing of masks indoors.”

In line with NSW Government regulations, patrons at conferences, banquets, exhibitions and live events are now required to wear a mask as a condition of entry.

ICC Sydney has clearance to host corporate events, which includes conferences, meetings, AGMs and awards and gala functions, in its Convention and Exhibition Centres.

Additionally, ICC Sydney’s Theatres, including the Aware Super Theatre, will continue to operate at 75% capacity, accommodating up to 6,000 patrons for ticketed and seated events.

Additional operating requirements of the NSW Public Health (COVID-19 Mandatory Face Coverings) Order 2021 as well as an update to the Public Health (COVID-19 Restrictions on Gathering and Movement) Order (No 7) 2020 have been outlined in the updated ICC Sydney EventSafe Operating Guide which integrates parent group ASM Global’s Venue Shield program.

Donaghy adds “we are pleased with the NSW Department of Health’s confidence in ICC Sydney for corporate events to continue to take place, subject to one person per four square metres - without a maximum capacity.

“We are closely monitoring the situation daily and the low number of new cases, or no cases, across Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. We are hopeful this positive trend results in the relaxation of border restrictions to enable greater certainty for the business events sector.

“We remain committed to keeping our clients and stakeholders informed of the latest changes in legislation, ensuring we have the right framework in place to safely run events at all times.”
