ICC Sydney lights up Darling Harbour during Vivid Sydney
International Convention Centre Sydney (ICC Sydney) has launched its first ever Vivid Sydney light installation - a precinct-wide display across its 19, seven-metre high digital blades and ICC Sydney Theatre’s 250 metre² digital entry screen.
Operational until 17th June, the installations are placed in prominent locations along Tumbalong Boulevard, presenting a continuous custom Vivid Sydney artwork alongside event, community and wayfinding information.
The recently opened integrated venue has partnered with Destination NSW to create the dynamic light activation, with ICC Sydney Chief Executive Geoff Donaghy stating “we are proud to make our Vivid Sydney debut with Destination NSW, joining the city to celebrate arts, culture and new thinking – all things that ICC Sydney has been specifically designed to foster.
“Our artwork uses texture, colour and movement to unify the light of Darling Harbour, Tumbalong Green and the Darling Quarter Precinct and gives guests a glimpse of the industry leading technology featured throughout ICC Sydney. The creative will be interspersed with directions during major events ensuring visitors can enjoy our contribution to the festival, while easily reaching their desired destination within the venue.”
According to Sandra Chipchase, Chief Executive of Destination NSW and Executive Producer for Vivid Sydney, the $1.5 billion centrepiece of the $3.4 billion revitalisation of Darling Harbour is perfectly positioned to enhance the Darling Harbour precinct of Vivid Sydney.
Chipchase explained “Vivid Sydney is the world’s largest festival of light, music and ideas, celebrating art and technology on a grand scale to visitors from around the world.
“It’s fitting that this year for the first time, the Festival’s light shines at the world-class ICC Sydney, for global guests and local communities to enjoy.”
Donaghy added that since opening in December last year, ICC Sydney has been building its reputation as a beacon of innovation, while also underpinning Sydney’s status as one of the most desirable events destinations in the world.
He advised “in our first quarter alone, ICC Sydney hosted 170 events and welcomed 320,000 guests through its doors. We look forward to impressing and contributing to this year’s festivities as a beacon of light and inspiration in the heart of the city.”
Vivid Sydney is owned, managed and produced by Destination NSW, the NSW Government’s tourism and major events agency and runs from 26th May to 17th June 2017.
