Hyrox training and Parkruns identified by Lifespan Fitness as among latest fitness trends

Australian exercise equipment brand, Lifespan Fitness has identified the fitness trends among Australians in 2025 by analysing social media search interest growth between May 2023 and May 2025. They were also able to determine the newest fitness trends that are making a mark this year.

The study revealed that Australians’ workout regimes have shifted from the likes of traditional cardio, such as Pilates and even weight training, to more endurance-type exercises – identifying Hyrox as the leading fitness trend with more than 1,066% growth in search interest.

Fitness regimes such as Hyrox training and community Parkruns are continuing to roll out across the country, becoming a social activity as much as a fitness event.

Notably, exercise trends such as stairmaster workouts, marathon training, cold plunges, and even bouldering are also seeing a major spike in interest across Australia. While searches for wall Pilates have dropped by 63% in two years but reformer Pilates sees a 50% increase.

Peter Day, Hyrox World Competitor, Athlete, and Lifespan Fitness ambassador advised “as our research shows, fitness trends are continuously evolving with some workouts having exhausted their intrigue, while others continue to encourage and test the limit of the fitness landscape, making room for both beginners and experts to try something new and set personal goals that align with their needs and lifestyle.

“Interestingly, Hyrox tops the list as the most popular fitness trend. What sets Hyrox apart is its accessibility; unlike many competitive events that are exclusive to professional or advanced athletes, it welcomes participants of all abilities. As fitness regimes like Hyrox training and even Parkruns or marathon training continue to roll out across the country, they’re becoming a social activity as much as a fitness event. It's a fantastic way for people to connect while working out together.”

Australia’s Ultimate Fitness Trends in 2025

Hyrox
Hyrox tops the list as the ultimate fitness trend among Australians, with a staggering +1,066% increase in search interest in two years. This huge spike emphasises a growing demand for more high-intensity and endurance-type workouts compared to traditional cardio or strength training.

Also reaching nearly 300,000 monthly searches this month alone, Hyrox is a fitness event that spans across four race categories: Open, Pro, Doubles, and Relay. It combines 8 kilometres of running with functional workouts such as rowing, wall ball, sandbag lunges, and more, making it one of the most inclusive yet demanding fitness challenges in Australia.

Stairmaster Workouts
Stairmaster workouts are the second most popular fitness trend nationwide, with more than a 160% increase in Australian search interest. This cardio-intensive workout mirrors climbing the stairs, which engages the glutes and hamstrings, ideal for building lower-body strength while improving cardiovascular health. A Stairmaster workout that became widely popular on social media includes the ‘25-7-2 Workout’, which involves climbing the stairs for 25 minutes straight at a moderate intensity level 7, twice a week.

75 Hard Challenge
The third most popular fitness trend is the 75 Hard Challenge, gaining over a 140% increase in search interest. Established in 2019, this trend has become more than just a fitness fad as it continues to challenge and push the curiosity of Aussies nationwide, with 17,000 monthly searches. It consists of following five self-improvement activities daily for over 75 days, including setting a nutrition plan that suits your fitness goal, but no cheat meals and cutting alcohol from your diet, to completing two 45-minute workouts a day.

Marathon Training and Parkruns
Marathon training has also been increasingly popular among Australians, with a 54% jump in search interest in just two years and more than 32,000 monthly searches. Running in general has been gaining huge traction across the country, with people joining parkruns or run clubs as a way to socialise or connect with new people.

Cold Plunges
Interestingly, cold plunges are also seeing a huge spike, with a 40% increase in search interest in just two years. Cold plunges are a type of recovery method that involves submerging your body in icy water to help with muscle recovery and ease soreness after an intense workout – and it seems like this post-workout recovery method is fast becoming a part of many Australians’ wellness regimen as it reaches more than 22,000 monthly searches.

Australia's top 10 hottest fitness trend newcomers in 2025
Lifespan Fitness also identified the newest fitness trends capturing the attention of many Australians this year. From having zero searches in 2023 to seeing a notable spike in search trends in just two years, increasing by +100%. These fitness trends include open water swimming, hybrid training, triathlon, to rowing – all of which solidify the growing popularity of endurance-type workouts in 2025.

Methodology:
Lifespan Fitness compiled a seed list of viral social media fitness trends such as ‘75 hard challenge’, ‘cosy cardio’, ‘half marathon training’, ‘Hyrox’, and more to identify the ultimate fitness trends among Australians in 2025.

Lifespan Fitness used Google Trends data (Glimpse) to analyse the search interest growth for each fitness trend by comparing the % difference between May 2023 and May 2025. These fitness trends were ranked according to the highest to lowest % difference to determine the top workout regimes that have gained popularity in two years.

Using the tool, they were also able to identify the monthly search volume for each fitness trend, where it was filtered for those with over 1000 monthly searches to ensure relevancy.  Data was collected between May 13th and May 22nd 2025.

Lifespan Fitness Australia offers customers a comprehensive range of exercise equipment and accessories, including treadmills, reformer Pilates beds, exercise bikes, rowers, and cross-trainers.
