Hunt Begins for New NZRA Chief Executive
New Zealand Recreation Association President John Latimer has announced that the Association is on for a new Chief Executive following a decision by incumbent Brendon Ward to take on the role of Volunteer Manager for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Latimer explained that the "NZRA is privileged to have benefited from the leadership and enthusiasm Brendon has brought to the role since January 2004. In that time the organisation has undergone significant change. There has been consistent and sustained growth, enhanced relevance and increased respect for the organisation by members, the recreation industry and external stakeholders.
"On behalf of the Board and staff I thank Brendon for his contribution to NZRA and the recreation industry. His professionalism and commitment to recreation has been unwavering."
Ward says he has thoroughly enjoyed the last six years and leaving NZRA is a difficult decision, stating "I truly believe in recreation, the recreation industry and what NZRA stands for. The industry has several significant challenges at the moment. However, it is in a good position to respond to those and leverage off other opportunities that are coming up."
Brendon will finish with the NZRA on Friday 12th February 2010 and has the full support of the Board until then, and into his new role.
The Board are currently working through the most appropriate recruitment process to find a new Chief Executive and it is envisaged that an ad and position description will be distributed within the the next few weeks. If required the NZRA's Kirsten Malpas will act as interim Malpas until a new postholder is in place.
