High performance sports conference opens at the AIS

The Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) has attracted some of the biggest names of sport, business and the military for the second World Class to World Best: Australia's high performance sports conference being held from today (13th November) until Friday.

Australia's high performance community including coaches, directors, managers and support staff have gathered in Canberra to address strategies and systems to support Australia's high performance aspirations.

Speakers include Olympic great Michael Johnson, renowned rugby league coach Wayne Bennett, author and journalist David Epstein, Commandant of the Royal Military College of Australia Brigadier Dianne Gallasch and Chief Executive of Leo Burnett Advertising and host of the Redesign my Brain program Todd Sampson.

AIS Director Matt Favier said the conference is a key element in Australia's Winning Edge strategy to deliver sustained international success for our athletes and the occasion was an opportunity for the sporting sector to collaborate and plan for Australia's sporting success.

Favier explained "to be successful at the highest level we need to be collaborative and provide the appropriate forums to share ideas and encourage creativity and innovation.

"The World Class to World Best conference provides a great platform for engagement and information sharing.

"With the quality of speakers available at this conference I am confident those who attend will walk away with fresh ideas on how we can maximise our athletes' high performance sporting achievements.

"While we have some high profile keynote speakers all presenters on the program are considered world experts in their fields."

This the second time the World Class to World Best conference has been hosted by the AIS with the inaugural event being run in Canberra in 2012.
