Harmony cultural event returns to Alice Springs in 2024

Big Day Out in Harmony (BDOIH) offers a vibrant celebration of diversity and inclusivity and is returning to the Red Centre on Saturday, 1st June 2024.

Organised by Multicultural Services of Central Australia (MCSCA) in collaboration with Alice Springs Town Council, this eagerly anticipated event promises to delight residents and visitors alike. BDOIH is supported by the Northern Territory Government through Northern Territory Major Events Company Event Funding Program.

The annual event is a celebration of the people and their cultures that call the Red Centre home.

BDOIH will showcase a dynamic line-up of Territory acts and performances alongside interstate performer Immy Owusu with his band. Attendees can look forward to an array of cuisines ranging from Fijian, Ethiopian, Filipino/American and Indian.

There will also be interactive activities such as hair braiding, hand henna painting and traditional attire try-ons for those looking to get involved.

The free event will take place at the Alice Springs Town Council Lawn from 12pm to 4pm on Saturday 1st June.

NTMEC Chief Executive Suzana Bishop notes "The Territory is home to people from many cultures and nationalities, and promoting inclusivity and diversity through events like Big Day Out in Harmony is an important way to foster community spirit and understanding of different cultures and ways of life."

MCSCA Chairperson, Mona Ulak added "Big Day Out in Harmony is our largest multicultural event of the year in Central Australia. The vibrant celebration of culture connects new and emerging communities with established community members and visitors. Importantly, BDOIH brings people together, sharing and showcasing the growing diversity and inclusiveness of Mparntwe/Alice Springs."
