Halong Bay among top eight green spaces in Asia
The Agoda.com website has announced the list of top eight green spaces/national parks in Asia, with Vietnam’s Halong Bay ranked fourth on the list.
Included in the list are national parks which are suitable for hiking or outdoor activities and green spaces in the middle of a city which offer important historical context. The result is based on feedbacks of customers and analysis of booking information on the website.
Along with Halong Bay, seven other green spaces/national parks in the list are Hallasan National Park (South Korea), Taroko National Park (Taiwan), Osaka Castle Park (Japan), Ang Thong National Marine Park (Thailand), Khao Yai National Park (Thailand), Penang National Park (Malaysia), and Rizal Park (Philippines).
Halong Bay covers the area of 1,553 kilometres² and encompasses 1,969 islands of various sizes, 989 of which have been given names. It borders Cat Ba Island to the south-west, the mainland to the west with a 120 kilometre-long coastline.
Islands in Halong Bay include two types of limestone and schist. This is the result of geological movement from mainland into sea about 500 million years ago. The long process of geological evolution created the unique Halong Bay in the world with thousands of islands which look like fantastic sculptural and artistic works of various graceful shapes.
To Ha long Bay, tourists will have the opportunity to visit grottoes, islands; take part in overnight tours in Bo Nau (Pelican) Grotto, Sung Sot (Surprise) Grotto, Luon Grotto, Trinh Nu (Virgin) Grotto, Cong Do Island, Ba Ham Lake or ecotourism tour in Soi Sim Island; bath and climb in Titov Island; kayak on Ha Long Bay or enjoy panorama view of the bay from helicopters…
With outstanding aesthetic, geographical – geomorphologic values, Halong Bay was recognised by UNESCO as World Natural Heritage twice times in 1994 and 2000. The bay was also listed as one of new seven nature wonders of the world by New7Wonders Organisation in 2011.
