Green Light for Hanmer Springs Pool and Spa Development
Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa has been given the go ahead to proceed with its $7.5million dollar extension.
Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa General Manager Graeme Abbot says he and his team are excited about the news, explaining "we know this innovative development will definitely improve the offering at the pools complex.
"The 5,200 metre² extension will include a new water sensations series of pools, a reconfigured freshwater pool area, children's aqua play area and an additional waterslide.
Abbot says the new extension will have three eight-metre water sensation pools, designed with water therapy and massage in mind, adding "the first pool will feature a waterfall, which you can sit under and enjoy the water being delivered onto your neck and shoulders from water-spouts.
"'Water massage' will be experienced in the other two pools. These pools will have a series of jets and nozzles, which will deliver water at different pressures to massage your body.
The 'resort style' freshwater pool will have a beach-style access, so people with disabilities can enter the pool more easily - with Abbot expectung that this pool will definitely have fun in mind for the young at heart, continuing "the pool will feature a 'lazy river' running around the outside of it, giving you a push around the pool. Kids will love this! They will also be entertained for hours in the new aqua play area, which contains interactive water activity for children up to the age of 10."
Another major part of the development is the Super Bowl. Abbot says this new ride will have a broad appeal to visitors and will be an exhilarating, fun activity for everyone who enjoys an adrenalin rush, adding "we want the whole family to be able to enjoy the Super Bowl, so it will be fun without risks. This ride will drop riders in a two-person inflatable tube down a chute, into a central bowl, around a few circuits, then gradually slows down and drop them into the exit at the bottom."
Abbot believes the new and improved complex will benefit the whole community, bringing more tourists to the Hurunui area thereby boosting the local economy.
Construction is due to get underway this month, but Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa will still be open for business.
Abbot concludes "I want to reassure people that it will be âbusiness as usualâ at Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools & Spa throughout the development process.
"We will do our best to ensure the time spent with us will be as relaxing and enjoyable as ever, with as little disruption as possible."
