Grass fire leads to Dreamworld evacuation
More than 7,000 guests were evactuated from Gold Coast theme park Dreamworld yesterday (Saturday 9th December) after a nearby grass fires led to smoke blanketing the attraction.
Authorities evacuated the 85-hectare Dreamworld theme park during the afternoon as a precaution while fire crews tried to contain the blaze.
Emergency services stressed that grass fire was not threatening Dreamworld, with a Dreamworld spokesperson explaining that the evacuation of the visitors and zoo animals had been a precaution.
The spokesperson stated "we evacuated for the safety of guests, staff and the animals."
She said park visitors whose details had been given to staff before they left the park would be contacted about possible compensation.
The park will open as usual today.
