Grants open for Geelong Positive Ageing events and experiences
The City of Greater Geelong has announced the opening of the Positive Ageing Grants with grants of up to $1,000 available to support community-hosted activities and experiences that promote and support healthy ageing for people aged 55+ in the City of Greater Geelong.
Eligible activities for funding should focus on:
encouraging physical activity
promoting mental health and wellbeing
strengthening social connection
recognising and celebrating achievements
supporting positive ageing
providing opportunities for intergenerational engagement.
Previous grant recipients have hosted events including dances, workshops, sporting activities and cultural experiences.
The Positive Ageing grants align with the City’s Positive Ageing Strategy 2021–2047, which aims to support healthy ageing for individuals aged 55+ in Greater Geelong.
Greater Geelong Mayor Stretch Kontelj notes “The Positive Ageing grants are designed to help seniors explore new interests, build meaningful connections, and enhance their health and wellbeing.
“With approximately a third of the Greater Geelong population being over people aged 55 and over, it’s important that we promote positive ageing for this growing demographic.”
Chair of the Ageing-Well Advisory Committee, Councillor Rowan Story added “It’s been fantastic to see the variety of activities past grant recipients have created.
“We encourage local organisations and community groups to apply for these grants and help us build a more age-friendly and supportive community.”
Grant applications are open now and close on Monday 26th May at 5 pm.
You can apply by going to the Positive Ageing Grants page on the Geelong Australia website.
