Grants available to support Northern Territory local sport

To support the involvement of Northern Territorians in sport and active recreation, a range of grants are now open as part of the second round of the Grass Roots Grant Program and the NTIS Officiating Development Grant.

The Grass Roots Grant Program supports the involvement of Territorians in sport and active recreation through funding eligible sport and recreation clubs and organisations.

The program aims to increase participation in sport and active recreation in five categories:

  • Participation

  • Volunteer Development

  • Equipment

  • Planning

  • Promotion.

Sport and active recreation clubs and organisations can apply to access a maximum of $5000 across one or more of the five categories.

Funding to support Territory sporting organisations looking to upskill their officials is also available through the 2020-21 NTIS Officiating Development Grant Program.

The Officiating Development Grant Program provides funding for sporting organisations to upskill coaches and educators of officials, send officials interstate or intra-Territory to gain experience and qualifications, and send Territory educators to remote and regional areas to conduct higher level training and accreditation.

Northern Territory Minister for Sport Kate Worden notes “sporting clubs and active recreation organisations support our community in so many ways – this is why we have these grants on offer, to help ensure they are able to offer a wide range of activities to keeps our youth engaged along with our society as active as possible.

“Officials play an integral part in developing a fair, safe and enjoyable environmental for all sporting participants. This funding will strengthen the capability and capacity of our sporting organisations to assess, coach, mentor and educate NT officials, and help increase the number of Territorians officiating at the highest levels in sport.

“If you’re an official, sporting club or active recreation organisation I encourage to apply for these grants.”

Applications for the NTIS High Performance Officiating Development Grant close on 28th February, and Grass Roots Grants close on 1st March 2021, for more information on both grants visit grantsnt.nt.gov.au
