Gold Coast Welcomes High Profile Sports Stars

The Australian womenâs water polo team will arrive on the coast for a training camp from 15th February.
As Head Coach Aleks Osadchuk explains, the squad are not strangers to the city, "it has become a tradition for us to train on the Gold Coast at least once each year,? he said, adding âthe facilities are great and Sport GC is very helpful in organising our visit.?

âOur aim is to position the Gold Coast as the countryâs premier high performance sporting location,? said Council Economic Development Manager, Grayson Perry.
âWhile the womenâs water polo team are regulars to the Gold Coast, we will take the opportunity to show the coaches and management team additional facilities and accommodation options throughout the city, in the hope they come back more often."
The 20-strong team, along with several coaching staff, will conduct their training at Southport Pool and the Sports Super Centre as they continue their preparations for the Commonwealth Championships to be held in India in April.
The St Kilda AFL team trained on the Gold Coast during December while the Socceroos will be based on the Coast from 23rd February in the lead up to their Asian Cup qualifier against Indonesia in March.
