Go Kart facility planned for Bathurst

The planned development of a go kart track in Bathurst has been welcomed for its potential to add to the region's reputation as the motorsport capital of Australia.

Remarkably, given that go-karting has long been recognised as a training ground for some of the world's top drivers in motor sport, and it's seen as an anomaly that the home of Mount Panorama and Australia's best-loved car race does not already have such a facility.

Currently young racers have to travel to Lithgow, Orange and further afield for competition but a Bathurst go kart track would quickly become the regional centre for the sport.

However, unlike the protracted discussions about a second track on Mount Panorama, this project really looks like getting off the ground with Bathurst Regional Council indicating strong support for the idea, though its support for the newly-formed Bathurst Kart Club.

Alec Lamberton Field, long-time home of Bathurst representative football, has been suggested as potential location for the track.
