Gates open on 127th Gympie Show
The 127th Gympie Show event has opened, expecting to attract around 60,000 visitors over its three days of operations from 14th to 16th May.
Third largest agricultural show in Queensland, this year’s Show is expected to be one of the biggest ever, with record entries among many exhibitors.
Gympie Show President Joe Mooney told the ABC that exhibitor numbers are up on last year's show which was badly affected by the drought.
Mooney stated “(the) Pavilion looks like it's going to be very big (with) our dairy section will be 50 up on last year.
"Horse numbers ... we've got horses coming here with people that have never been here before from the middle of New South Wales, one show jumper is bringing 12 and they've never been to Gympie before.
"They've heard about it so they want to come, so they're bringing a full team of 12."
The Show will pay a special tribute to legendary woodchopper Vic Summers, who died in March, aged 96. Summers was an eight-time world tree felling champion, who competed at countless Gympie shows, would be one of those commemorated.
