Further Federal Government commitment towards a permanent home for netball
Federal Minister for Sport Don Farrell has anounced that the Australian Government has committed a further $1.9 million investment in Netball Australia's 'Home for Netball' in Melbourne.
The additional funding, which follows the $2.6 million committed by the Australian Government in April 2012, showcases the important role netball plays in Australian communities.
The new administrative offices will bring together Netball Australia and the ANZ Championship's Australian operations, the Australian Netball Players Association and the Asian Netball Federation secretariat, along with space dedicated to a comprehensive exhibition of Australian netball and its proud history.
Welcoming the funding, Netball Australia Chief Executive Kate Palmer stated "the Australian Government's investment in netball is a wonderful acknowledgement of the hard work and dedication of the entire netball community, and demonstrates confidence in netball's whole of sport strategy.
"It's an important milestone for netball as it will bring many netball entities together, strengthening netball and providing a springboard for the sport to grow, flourish and build a legacy on the back of the 2015 Netball World Cup and 2018 Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast."
Senator Farrell added "the Australian Government is proud to deliver this additional support to ensure that netball has the home it truly deserves and can continue to promote the sporting opportunities it provides, particularly to women and girls."
The investment has provided Netball Australia with an opportunity to establish a permanent home in Melbourne after being temporarily based in the central business district since its move from Sydney in 2007.
Netball Australia completed the purchase of 191 Johnston Street, Fitzroy in December 2012 and will move into the new offices in mid-September 2013.
