Forsyth Barr Stadium Main South Stand Completed

Construction of the main south stand at Dunedin's Forsyth Barr Stadium at University Plaza has been completed.
Malcolm Farry, Chairman of Carisbrook Stadium Trust, which is responsible for construction of Forsyth Barr Stadium, marked completion of the Main South Stand by trowelling off one of the last sections of concrete.
Ferry stated, "on behalf of the Trust, I congratulate the project team, contractors and sub-contractors for completing the Main South Stand structure.
âThe main south stand is significant as it houses core venue facilities including conference facilities; main commercial kitchen; media facilities; hospitality suites and lounges; player, referee and staff changing areas, and; ground staff, office and administration areas.
âWe remain on track for completion of Forsyth Barr Stadium by 1st August 2011. Whatâs more, last month the site achieved 200,000 hours worked with no Lost Time Incidents. That is a great outcome for the health and safety of everyone working on site.
The $188 million stadium is designed by Populous and will be New Zealand's first fully enclosed grassed stadium. The stadium is designed as a versatile venue, and expected to be able to host a range of events including sport, concerts, trade fairs and other large scale events. Permanent seating in the South and North stands and relocatable seating in East and West Stand areas allows for a maximum capacity of 30,500 spectators and the flexibility to suit a range of event requirements.
A ten-year agreement with the Carisbrook Stadium Trust for the 'head naming rights' was agreed with Dunedin-based sharebroking and investment company Forsyth Barr in January last year.
