Former Adelaide Ice Arena operator owes more than $3.5 million

The company that ran the Adelaide Ice Arena until late February this year - and is a related entity of the current operator - owes more than $3.5 million to creditors including more than $130,000 in unpaid staff superannuation.

Winding up action for ACN 643 112 485 - which previously traded as Ice Arena Adelaide Pty Ltd - commenced in late February with liquidators appointed. As reported by The Australian Business Network, reports lodged with the corporate regulator in recent days shows owes employees unpaid superannuation in the amount of $134,890.

The Australian Taxation Office is owed $433,051, the documents show, while there are also a number of small business creditors.

Meanwhile Agile Group, which now runs the venue, late last year committed to “invest” $1 million a year in the current financial year and the next three years to charity Ice Factor, with questions remaining unanswered about how such a donation could be made, when a subsidiary company could not pay its bills.

The company that was placed in liquidation is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Agile Holdings (Australia), and until September last year, both companies shared a common Director in Michael Boyle, now Chief executive of Agile Group, who stepped down from the Ice Arena company at that stage.

A post on the Ice Arena’s Facebook page - now removed - has advised that “Agile Group manage the operations for the Ice Arena and have done for almost 2 years."
