Food prices fall for games at Canberra’s GIO Stadium

With a new all-weather entertainment hub called ‘The Huddle’ launching at Canberra’s GIO Stadium this weekend, the ACT Government has also revealed that food prices at the venue will be reduced.

Advising that it has been working with the ACT Brumbies and Canberra Raiders to improve the game day experience at GIO Stadium and attract more attendees to matches, acting ACT Chief Minister and Minister for Sport and Recreation Yvette Berry said reducing costs for things such as food will help make it easier for families to support their favourite teams.

Minister Berry, stated “we want to make sure it’s still affordable and fun for families to get along to the footy this year.

“The price of popular items such as pies, sausage rolls and hot chips will be reduced to under $5 at GIO Stadium’s public food outlets.

“The new addition of The Huddle will bring the Western Forecourt to life with music and local entertainment, a screen to watch the game and opportunities to engage with the Brumbies and the Raiders clubs on game days.”

Operating on all game days, pre and post-match, The Huddle will offer unique food sourced from local produce and a choice of craft or mainstream beer along with other beverages.

Commenting on the move, ACT Brumbies Chief Executive, Phil Thomson noted “we welcome all initiatives by the ACT Government to reduce the costs for families attending our matches at GIO Stadium.”

Canberra Raiders Chief Executive, Don Furner added “The Huddle entertainment area at GIO Stadium Canberra, and the announced food item discounts, provide more reasons to get out and experience matches live.

“We pride ourselves on the many game day interactions and engagements we facilitate when playing matches in Canberra. Today’s announcements by Venues Canberra (ACT Government) demonstrate our collective commitment of providing quality entertainment at an affordable price.

“We look forward to seeing many people attending matches in 2023 as we return to pre-COVID normality.”
