Fitness First opens in India

Global fitness chain Fitness First has entered the Indian market with club openings in the city of Gurgaon and in the Lokhandwala, Mumbai. The chain is also expected to open a third Indian club in the Connaught Place shopping centre in Delhi in the coming weeks.
Having first expressed an aim to launch in India in 2006, Fitness First is now reported to be undergoing rapid expansion in that market, opening with plans to open three further clubs (including a clubs in Bangaloreâs Eva Mall in August) before the end of the year.
Vikram Aditya Bhatia, Managing Director of Fitness First India recently stated âwe want to provide fitness where people live, where they work and where they transit with an offering of scale, comfort and service. What we will give is five-star fitness at affordable prices.�?
Bhatia added âwe took three years to look at the real estate market in India, which has been very volatile but we are now able to plan to open 15 or more clubs in the next three years.�?
