'Fitness census' shows Australian exercisers self motivated and focused on results
In the week when Australians filled out their Census forms, Fitness First asked its members about their workout habits to get a snapshot of how Australia is exercising.
The findings showed 80% of those exercising did so alone, the majority (73%) exercise for 30-60 minutes and the main reasons for exercise were to maintain general fitness (16%) and for weight loss (10%).
In terms of motivation, 70.5% said they motivated themselves to workout, with 84% also saying they are happy to extremely happy with their fitness results.
Fitness First Australia's Director of Fitness, Grant Twible, said the fitness census results showed people were taking responsibility for their health and fitness.
Twible explained "it's great to see people are taking their health and fitness seriously and are exercising with focus on results.
"The survey results are also pleasing in that they show the majority of people are exercising for at least the recommended 30minutes, if not longer ï¾ this shows that exercise doesn't need to take a lot of time in your day to have a positive impact on your health.
"Diversity of activity is also great as it keeps things interesting and the majority of the survey respondents are also mixing up their workouts, with 41% of people combining activities such as running or walking, group exercise classes, cycling and weights in their weekly exercise program."
