FISU University World Cup Football among expos and sports events planned for southeast China

Multiple industrial expos and sports events are planned this year for Jinjiang City in southeast China's Fujian Province to inject new vitality and momentum into its high-quality economic and social development.

The holding of the 2023 Jinjiang International Marathon, an independently-cultivated brand competition by the city, and the 2nd FISU University World Cup-Football will help further shape the city's reputation as a sports city.

Other expos and sports events include the 5th China (Jinjiang) International Decoration & Building Materials Expo, the 24th Jinjiang Footwear & the 7th Sports Industry International Exposition, China, the 7th Cross-Strait Food Fair and the 10th Taiwan-Fujian (Quanzhou) Food Fair.

FISU University World Cup Football was postponed to 2023 because of the current pandemic, which has already had a massive impact on the planning of international events.

Since its founding in 1949, the International University Sports Federation is the key driver to expand the role and reach of university sport around the world. FISU believes that sports values and sports practice work in perfect synchronicity within one's university studies.

FISU offers opportunity and inspiration to students around the world to play sport. The health, wellbeing, and experiences that students gain from sport help them become active members in our global society.

The FISU University World Cup Football was expected to be held on 18th-29th May 2022 in Jinjiang, having already been postponed from 2021. The latest postponement brought the natural calendar cycle back to its original format of organising the FISU University World Cup Football tournament every odd year.

The COVID pandemic forced both FISU and the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC) to work in strong collaboration to safeguard the interests and health of the athletes and the suitability of the event.

In 2022 Julien Carrel, FISU World University Championships Manager commented on the postponement of the event  “Concerning the continuation of the preparation work for 2023, we will keep the same dedication in the event preparation with the FUSC and the Organisation Committee to make sure the World Cups will happen seamlessly.”
