Expansion of Wyndham City's $6 million Galvin Park Sexton Pavilion complete

Wyndham City Council, located in the outer southwestern suburbs of Melbourne, has advised that construction of Werribee’s $6.1 million cricket, netball and football pavilion upgrade is now complete, featuring a second storey extension with a social room, committee room, kitchenette, timekeeper area and office.

Other improvements at the Galvin Park Sexton Pavilion include four new change rooms that will be accessible for all participants, new umpire rooms, first-aid room and storage.

In a nod to sustainability, all gas appliances have been replaced with electric and more than 60 solar panels have been added to the pavilion.

The Galvin Park pavilion upgrade is supported by a $2 million grant from the Victorian Government’s Growing Suburbs Fund, $1 million from the Victorian Government’s Local Sports Infrastructure Fund, and $500,000 from the Federal Government.

The Werribee Centrals Sports and Youth Club also made an important contribution to the fit-out of this building.

Wyndham City Mayor Mia Shaw, who attended the official opening of the pavilion this week alongside Werribee MP John Lister and Lalor MP Joanne Ryan, said this expansion was a game-changer for the clubs who call Galvin Park home.

Mayor Shaw noted “these modern facilities will enhance the experience for players, officials, and spectators alike, while also supporting the continued growth of grassroots sports in Wyndham.

“The expansion of the Sexton Pavilion also complements upgrades to the Galvin Park soccer and tennis pavilions undertaken in recent years.”

Heathdale Ward Councillor Jennie Barrera added “This project is the final step in a broader initiative to revamp 14 sporting pavilions across Wyndham, including recent upgrades at Goddard Street Reserve, Arndell Park Reserve, Saltwater Reserve (tennis), and Tom Roberts Reserve.”

“The sporting pavilion upgrades program allows our sporting clubs to grow their membership bases, and ensures these facilities are friendly for women and girls, are accessible, and provide improved social and kiosk facilities for host clubs.”
