Exciting New format announced for 2019 Mt Buller Bike Festival

The revolutionary Shimano Bike Buller Festival enters its 11th year with a new 2-day format at Mt Buller’s internationally-recognised mountain bike destination from 9th to 10th March 2019.

The Festival will see the first ever race along the famed Epic Trail, often regarded as one of Australia’s favourites for X-Country riders. The course takes riders on an incredible point to point journey through the alpine wilderness that surrounds Mt Buller and features 1,250metres climbing and 2,200metres descending.

Hundreds of riders are expected to race at Mt Buller for the event, with an even larger number of friends and family joining them at the alpine resort to spectate and enjoy the range of other, non-riding activities on offer such as sightseeing on the chairlift.

The chairlift will operate making this one of only two weekends this summer where riders will be able to float up on the lift after they smash down the DH tracks.

Gravity riders can take advantage of the chairlift with the ABOM Downhill event, coupled with the Gravity Enduro race, and the thrilling Super-D.

The Enduro is the third round of the Victorian Enduro Tour, and it is expected to be even more popular in 2019 with 300+ riders set to participate.

Other events on the schedule include the new slopestyle and whip-off competition on the new jumps in the Village.

A 20km Corn Hill Grand Prix on the Sunday compliments the Epic Trail and features all the best cross country single track in a ‘royal loop’ of the mountains.

Both the ‘Gravity Gods’ and ‘XC Whippet’ combined-races categories return for 2019, allowing riders to compete in two different races over the two days to award an overall weekend winner in both gravity and cross-country riding disciplines.

Sam Maffett General Manager of event organisers Rapid Ascent said the weekend has been designed as a super fun mountain bike event for everyone!

“Racers can race, recreational riders can enjoy the trails and the scenery, non-riders can do their own thing and we can all get together to enjoy a good party on Saturday night. This is what riding is all about!” said Maffett.

“Mt Buller is Australia’s most epic mountain biking destination, with some of the best trails in the country. Combined with a stacked schedule of races and full social calendar the appeal is high for groups of friends to come to the event together as well as riders and their families.” added Maffett.

The two-day celebration of mountain biking features an extensive Bike Expo with a range of social activities, operating chairlift, MTB movies, kids’ ride and the ‘Picnic in the Park’ food, wine and music festival held in the Mirimbah Park at the base of Mt Buller.
