ESSA’s Exercise Right Week 2023 spotlights importance of seeking right advice
Driven by Exercise & Sports Science Australia (ESSA), Exercise Right Week will run from 22nd to 28th May, focusing on the theme of "The Right Advice." This year's campaign highlights the importance of seeking individualised exercise advice from qualified professionals.
Exercise Right Week will cover a different topic each day to showcase the benefits of working with an Accredited ESSA member. The topics include chronic conditions such as diabetes, cancer, and disabilities, strength training, sports, cardio training, women’s health, older Australians, and mental health.
With the rise of misinformation and generic exercise advice, it is important for Australians to understand the value of personalised care and attention from an Accredited Exercise Physiologist, Accredited Exercise Scientist, or Accredited Sports Scientist.
The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW) (July 2022) reported that 55% did not meet the physical activity guidelines in 2017-2018.
Last month an AIHW report on “Reducing the burden due to overweight (including obesity) and physical activity” (AIHW April 2023) revealed an extra hour of weekly activity could reduce disease burden attributed to physical activity by 16% in 2030.
Exercise Right Week is an annual event that aims to raise awareness about the benefits of exercise and the importance of seeking advice from qualified exercise professionals. The week-long campaign provides the opportunity for Australians to learn from some of the best exercise professionals in the country.
Accredited exercise professionals are trained to develop exercise programs tailored to individual needs, considering pre-existing medical conditions, injury, and other factors.
Anita Hobson-Powell, Chief Executive of Exercise & Sports Science Australia notes "Exercise is a vital component of a healthy lifestyle and seeking the right advice from qualified accredited exercise professionals can help people achieve their health and fitness or sporting performance goals safely and effectively.
"We encourage Australians to take advantage of Exercise Right Week and seek the right advice for their health and exercise goals."
Exercise Right Week is an initiative of Exercise & Sports Science Australia, a professional organisation committed to advancing the health and fitness industry through evidence-based practice.
