EOI opens for head contractor to build Armstrong Creek Sports Centre

The Victorian Government has announced the opening of the Expression of Interest (EOI) process for the head contractor to build the Armstrong Creek Sports Centre with four indoor multi-sport courts and a new plaza.

Armstrong Creek is one of four projects across the Geelong and Surf Coast region being delivered through the Victorian Government’s Regional Sports Infrastructure Program – with 15 projects in total across the state.

The requirements for the EOI process mean applicants must outline their plans for engaging with local businesses, suppliers and workers, creating jobs and boosting the local economy.

The Regional Sports Infrastructure Program is part of the State Government’s record $45 billion investment since 2014 in projects and programs that matter to regional communities, including more than $2.3 billion for sport and active recreation infrastructure across Victoria.

The indoor sports centre in Armstrong Creek is among the quartet of local projects which are expected to cost, all together, about $250 million. The aquatic centre originally proposed to be built in Armstrong Creek through the legacy package now appears to be officially off the table.

The other three local projects include:

  • A major upgrade to the Stead Park hockey venue in Corio with a better pitch, new pavilion and spectator seating

  • A new hockey pitch at Banyul-Warri Fields in Torquay North as well as lighting, scoreboard and spectator seating

  • An indoor sporting complex in Waurn Ponds with six multi-sport courts, a gymnastics facility, dance studio and car parking,

Federal Member for Corangamite Libby Coker noted “Securing a contractor for the new high ball centre in Armstrong Creek is bringing us one step closer to providing our rapidly growing region with much-needed sporting facilities, facilities like basketball and netball for lots and lots of local families – it’s going to be amazing.”
