ENGIE Stadium undergoes $4 million LED lighting upgrade

The multi-purpose, 24,000 seat venue at Sydney Showground - ENGIE Stadium - has undergone a significant $4 million LED lighting upgrade.

The 348 ArenaVision LED lights are exclusively designed for sporting and multi-purpose venues and will significantly elevate the venue’s lighting capabilities while cutting the stadium’s power consumption by half on event days.

The new lighting system was created and installed by Signify and SMADA Electrical, and operated by award-winning entertainment company KOJO. The project was directly funded by the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW which runs the award-winning venue, Sydney Showground. ENGIE Stadium is one of the only independently owned and operated professional sports stadiums in NSW.

Compliant with Australian Football League and International Cricket Council requirements, the new system will have the functionality to support light shows for concerts and music festivals, including the venue’s Sydney Royal Easter Show, while simultaneously enhancing patron match day experiences for home team’s the GWS GIANTS and Sydney Thunder.

Sydney Showground General Manager, Darryl Jeffrey is excited about the new lighting upgrade with the investment in a state-of-the art lighting system considered to be “a great step forward for our business and the longevity of the stadium.

“As a venue, we have proven our versatility in hosting a range of events from festivals and sporting matches to live stadium shows, and we believe this innovative technology will take our venue’s offerings to the next level, ensuring it can remain competitive against the brand-new stadiums built over the last few years.

“Having recently launched our own Environmental, Social and Governance strategy, this lighting upgrade is also a direct investment into the sustainability of our venue, with the new LED lighting boasting a life expectancy of 25 times that of the current system and set to reduce running costs by up to 47%.

“As an independently owned and run stadium this project is a direct investment by our parent company, the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW into our future, and we can’t wait to see what’s ahead.”

The spectacular lighting enhancements will be able to be seen for the first time at this Saturday’s GWS Giants vs Western Bulldogs game.
