Dubai spa Numbers Set to Grow

Intelligent Spas has revealed updated benchmarks for the Dubai wellness market showing that more than 60 spas are currently operating in the Emirate of Dubai, generating a revenue of AED320 million ($95 million).

The second Spa Benchmark Report on Dubai from the independent research company features a range of other business intelligence and financial statistics on the market. These include breakdowns of key performance indicators by day, hotel and resort spas.

The company predicts that spa numbers are forecast to grow by 17.7% by the end of 2009, but that revenue is predicted to fall by more than 50% before a recovery in 2010.

Other key findings of the report include that more than half of the visits to Dubai hotel and resort spas are from people not staying at that property while resort spas achieve significantly higher revenue per spa compared to both day and hotel spas.

The average treatment room occupancy/utilisation and therapist productivity rates are less than 50% and nearly 30% of visitors to Dubai spas are international tourists.
