Cumberland City Council partners with Planet Ark to call for community involvement on National Tree Day

Cumberland City Council has partnered with with Planet Ark to call on all residents to participate in Australia’s largest tree planting and nature care event, National Tree Day.

This year’s event will be held on Sunday, 27th July 2025 from 10am to 12noon, this family-friendly community planting day is a great opportunity to reconnect with nature, contribute to the local environment, and enjoy a free sausage sizzle with fellow residents.

Together, the community will help plant 2,200 trees, shrubs and ground covers that are native to the endangered Cumberland Plains Woodland ecosystem.

Cumberland Mayor Ola Hamed said National Tree Day was a chance for the community to take meaningful action for the environment.

Mayor Hamed advised “this event is about more than just planting trees, it’s about creating a greener, healthier future for our community.

“By coming together to care for our local environment, we’re strengthening our connection to place and each other.”

All equipment will be provided on the day, however families are welcome to bring their own gardening tools, along with a reusable water bottle, closed footwear, and a sun-safe hat.

This is a fantastic opportunity to help green your neighbourhood, support biodiversity, and enjoy quality time outdoors.

Get involved, dig in, and make a difference!
