Cricket NSW names Blacktown Reserve 'Ground of the Year'

Blacktown City Council's Joe McAleer Reserve, located in the suburb of Glendenning, has been recognised as Ground of the Year by Cricket NSW.
The recognition for first and second grade cricket venues highlights the vital contribution ground staff make to the success of the grade cricket competitions across metropolitan Sydney.
Mayor of Blacktown City, Councillor Alan Pendleton stated "we are extremely proud of being awarded Ground of the Year. It is a credit to the Council staff who ensure that our sporting fields including Joe McAleer Reserve are in pristine condition throughout the entire cricket season."
Judged by officiating umpires every match day during the season, the competition covers the 21 first and second grade grounds throughout the Sydney metropolitan area. With Bankstown and Hurstville Ovals dominating the award for nearly 18 years, Blacktown has broken their grip on the Ground of the Year Award.
In another fantastic result for Blacktown, Whalan Reserve, which houses the lower grade cricket competitions with the two turf wicket fields came in at 9th and 11th position (out of 41 other grounds) in the lower grade ground rankings.
Mayor Pendleton added "this award reflects Council's ongoing commitment to providing high quality sporting facilities for our local community."
