Country music to take over Wyndham
The East Kimberley's Five Rivers Lookout will provide an extraordinary setting for country music lovers at this weekend's Panoramic Resources Wyndham Stars on the Bastion.
Western Australian Tourism Minister Kim Hames said the lookout, at 330 metres, was the highest point of the Bastion Range, providing spectacular views of the Cambridge Gulf and Wyndham port.
Dr Hames explained "the Wyndham Stars on the Bastion is in its third year and a perfect example of a regional event that utilises its extraordinary landscapes and location to set it apart from other events.
"In addition to a unique setting, the event will feature some of Australia's favourite country music singers such as Hendrix and the DT's; Chris Matthews; Northern Hum; Birch Brothers; multi-award winner Sara Storer; Greg Storer; Road Worx; and TV personality Daryl Somers as emcee."
Minister Hames said the Wyndham Stars on the Bastion was supported by Eventcorp's Regional Events Scheme, which was jointly funded by Royalties for Regions.
Western Australian Regional Development Minister Brendon Grylls said he was pleased regional communities throughout WA were benefitting from the State Government's significant commitment to regional events, adding "Regional WA is a truly amazing place and, with $40million in Royalties for Regions funding dedicated to events, there is more happening throughout the State than ever before.
"Events provide a wonderful opportunity for people living in a regional area to come together and showcase their town to visitors, demonstrating first-hand why their community is such a special place to live.
"Events bring social and economic benefits to communities, both of which are important outcomes for regional development."
The Panoramic Resources Wyndham Stars on the Bastion will be held on Saturday 7th July 2012.
Sponsored by Panoramic Resources the event is one of a growing number of regional festivals and events being backed by mining and resources companies.
