COTA Victoria setting the benchmark in empathy-led programs for sport and health professionals
As a leading voice and advocate for older Australians, Council on the Ageing (COTA) Victoria is determined to continue to create resources which give sport and health industries the necessary edge to create and nurture an authentic connection with their older patients.
COTA Victoria knows that a ‘one size fits all’ approach in representing the interests and rights of older Australians does not work. It needs to be intimate, forward thinking and empathic and that includes how health professionals such as physiotherapists, osteopaths and other physical therapy experts approach their older patients to achieve the best outcomes.
As a fundamental focus of COTA Victoria, enhancing the health and wellbeing for older Australians is a multi-layered approach, with COTA Victoria joining forces with organisations and professionals to create programs and services with a more holistic approach for older Australians to benefit from.
As part of the all-inclusive and intimate approach, COTA Victoria is leading the charge in building on their suite of face to face and self-paced learning offerings through their COTA Learning platform.
COTA Learning is a culmination of COTA Australia, COTA Victoria, COTA Tasmania and COTA NSW creating courses specifically designed for people working with older Australians.
Living Longer Living Stronger courses include Tier One training and deep dives into a myriad areas of learning that are focused on issues prevalent to older Australians including chronic conditions and how to make exercise inclusive.
According to Mish Wright, Team Leader of Online Learning, COTA Learning provides a unique empathic offering for health professionals to embrace topics rarely presented in other courses.
Wright advised “the COTA Learning courses have been meticulously created so that health professionals have an additional layer of knowledge and understanding of what older Australians specifically experience. We hope that once participants complete the courses, they are armed with invaluable insights to enhance their client relationship during their consultations.”
Tina Hogarth-Clarke, Chief Executive COTA Victoria noted “Health professionals such as physiotherapists do an amazing job and we hope that by completing courses at COTA Learning, there will be another level of compassion and responsiveness specifically for older Australians.”
