Construction tender awarded for enhancement of Darwin’s Richardson Park
The Northern Territory Government has awarded a $1.4 million construction tender to local Territory business Jaytex Constructions as it looks to enhance and activate Darwin’s Richardson Park.
The works set to commence this month include building ablutions facilities, change rooms, storage and undercover areas as well as exercise and playground equipment for the local community to enjoy.
This is the next milestone from the $7.1 million investment to revitalise Richardson Park, which follows the opening of vehicle access to Ludmilla School via Richardson Drive in April 2024.
Delivered over multiple stages, the Richardson Park community space project is nearing completion, with remediation works finished and civil components fully complete with final landscaping areas now under an establishment period.
The improvements will enhance and activate the area for the community and includes the reconstruction of the playing fields.
The memorial for Warren ‘Shadow’ Mount has been preserved and reinstated in a prominent position on the grounds, acknowledging the site’s history and the lengthy connection Rugby League has had with Richardson Park.
The new public open space features covered picnic shelters with 340 new trees and shrubs planted to provide shaded areas throughout the site.
The opening of the playing fields is scheduled for July, with the remaining elements to be completed late 2024.
