Construction begins on Sorell's Pembroke Park sports arena
The Tasmanian Government has announced that construction of new indoor sporting facilities at Sorell's Pembroke Park has commenced.
Jointly funded by the Tasmanian and Federal Governments and the Sorell Council, the $10.2 million Pembroke Park Stadium will include two netball/basketball courts, a gym, offices, a meeting room, change rooms, kitchen/canteen, bar and function room and parking.
The construction tender for the project has been awarded to Tasmanian company Vos Construction and Joinery, with several local jobs set to be created as a result.
Tasmanian Minister for Sport and Recreation, Jane Howlett stated “the Tasmanian Government is committed to improving sporting facilities around Tasmania to improve participation rates and provide the modern infrastructure our sporting organisations deserve.”
The Sorell Council has previously been awarded $630,000 under the Tasmanian Government’s Levelling the Playing Field Grants Program to upgrade unisex change rooms for Pembroke Park.
Initial site preparation work for the new venue is now underway, with the project expected to be completed by December 2021.
Sorell is located 26 kilometres east of Hobart.
